Taylor Alison Swift is an American singer-songwriter, music producer, actress, philanthropist, and businesswoman.

Known for her narrative songwriting, she has been credited for changing the music industry by re-recording her first six albums.


Born in West Reading, Pennsylvania, Swift moved to Nashville, Tennessee, at the age of 14 to pursue a career in country music. 

She signed with Big Machine Records and released her self-titled debut album in 2006. 

The album sold over 4 million copies in the United States and was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).

Swift's second studio album, Fearless (2008), was a critical and commercial success, winning four Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year.

The album's lead single, "Love Story", became her signature song and one of the best-selling singles of all time.


Her subsequent studio albums, Speak Now (2010), Red (2012), 1989 (2014), and Reputation (2017), all debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart and were met with critical acclaim.

1989 was her first pop album and marked a significant departure from her country roots. Reputation, inspired by her public controversies, became her best-selling album to date.


In 2019, Swift released Lover, a return to pop with influences from various genres. 

The album's lead single, "Me!", featuring Brendon Urie of Panic! at the Disco, topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart, making Swift the first artist to have three number-one debuts on the chart.


In 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, Swift released two surprise albums: Folklore and Evermore, both alternative rock and indie folk records. 

Both albums received critical acclaim and won Grammy Awards for Album of the Year.


In 2022, Swift re-recorded her first two albums, Fearless (Taylor's Version) and Red (Taylor's Version), due to a dispute with her former record label over the ownership of her master recordings. 

Both albums debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart and were met with critical acclaim.


In 2023, Swift was named Time magazine's Person of the Year. 

She released her tenth studio album, Midnights, which debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart and became her fifth album to achieve this feat. 

The album's lead single, "Anti-Hero", reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, making Swift the first artist to have five number-one debuts on the chart.


Swift is one of the world's best-selling music artists, having sold over 200 million records worldwide. 

She is the recipient of numerous awards, including 12 Grammy Awards, 32 American Music Awards, 40 Billboard Music Awards, and an Emmy Award.


She is also known for her philanthropy and activism, advocating for various causes including LGBT rights, women's rights, and gun control.
