Oxford Cambridge boat race

Oxford Cambridge boat race

The Oxford and Cambridge Boat Race is an annual rowing competition steeped in British tradition.

Dating back to 1829, it's one of the longest-running sporting events in the world.

Held on the River Thames in London, the grueling race pushes both universities' best rowers to their limits over a challenging 4.2-mile course.

Traditionally, the competition featured men's eights, but a women's race was introduced in 1927. Crews are nicknamed "blues" and their boats "Blue Boats," with Cambridge taking light blue and Oxford dark blue.

As of 2023, Cambridge holds the lead in the men's category with 86 wins to Oxford's 81, with one tie.

Interestingly, Cambridge has seen a period of dominance in the women's races, securing six consecutive victories.

The 2024 race, held on March 30th, continued Cambridge's winning streak with victories in both the men's and women's categories.
